Former DOJ Secretary, Raul Gonzalez Sr. passes away

MANILA –Raul Gonzalez Sr., who once served as Secretary of the Department of Justice, passed away on Sunday evening due to multiple organ failure.

Details of his passing were provided by his son, former Iloilo City Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr.. The younger Gonzalez said that his father died at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), at the age of 83-years-old.

Gonzales served as the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and was the Former Secretary of Justice of the Philippines. He was appointed to the post in 2004 by then president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo; a position he held until 2009. He also served as representative of Iloilo City.

The former DOJ chief suffered from kidney problems, which led him to have a kidney transplant in September 2007. His driver, Felicito Gunay, was the donor of the organ used in the successful transplant procedure.
