MANILA — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has implemented one-hour manual load droppings (MLDs) Monday in Metro Manila and Bulacan, due to the outage of two power plants.
“There is a tentative one-hour rotating brownout due to power supply deficiency brought about by the outage of Calaca 2 and GN Power,” Meralco said in a statement on its twitter account Monday.
Specifically, Meralco said the areas which will have power outages from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. are Sampaloc, Tondo, Grace Park, Malabon, Valenzuela, Novaliches and Kaybiga.
Moreover, it mentioned that some portions of Bulacan, namely: Meycauayan, Calumpit, Sta. Maria & Malolos, will have power cuts on the same time frame.
On the other hand, the Malabon area and Navotas areas will experience brownouts from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The National Grid Corporation (NGCP) has said on its website that the supply for the Luzon grid today is at 8393 Megawatt (MW), while the peak demand amounts to 7910 MW, creating only a reserve of 483 MW.
Thus, the NGCP has issued a red alert status of the Luzon region, since it fell short of the required reserve of the Philippine Grid Code by 647 MW.
