MANILA — Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Monday condemned the killing of a labor official in Manila.
“I condemn in the strongest terms the dastardly killing of labor officer Ellen Dacanay assigned at the Manila field office of the Department,” he said in a statement.
“It is disturbing that a civilian official was murdered in a cowardly manner akin to executions by hired guns,” Bello added.
At the same time, Bello appealed to authorities to immediately solve the killing.
“I appeal to our law enforcement agencies to act immediately to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime,” he said.
The Labor and Employment Secretary expressed sympathy to the family of the DOLE official and assured that they will provide necessary assistance to them.
“I join the officialdom of the Labor department in condoling with her family on their tragic loss. We will extend all necessary assistance to the family to serve the ends of justice,” Bello said.
It was reported that the DOLE employee was shot dead Monday while driving her car by two assailants onboard a motorcycle along Malvar St., Malate, Manila.
She was declared dead on arrival at an undisclosed hospital after succumbing to bullet wounds.
