MANILA — The Philippine Army (PA) on Tuesday lauded the visit of a ranking Indonesian Army (IA) official to its headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City and called this a part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen military ties between the two nations.

During the courtesy call Monday, PA Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Reynaldo M. Aquino and Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Security of the Tentra National Indonesia, Angkatan Darat (TNI AD) Brig. Gen. Djaka Budi Utama discussed both armies’ future cooperation to prepare their respective forces against evolving threats in the region.

The two parties reiterated the importance of training exchanges and other bilateral activities to gain additional military skills as well as to boost Filipino-Indonesian camaraderie, PA spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said.

The PA expressed its interest in acquiring military supplies from the IA and at the same time offered to share its logistics best practices learned during the Battle of Marawi and other subject matter exchanges.

On the other hand, the IA is looking forward to PA’s participation in the upcoming Asean Armies Rifle Meet 2019 which will be held in Indonesia.

“Strengthening our relationship with other military counterparts is essential in learning new capabilities that will capacitate our troops in addressing internal and external threats,” he added.
