University in Iloilo maintains spot as PH’s top nursing school

Iloilo City, Iloilo — West Visayas State University (WVSU) in Iloilo City is still the Philippines’ top-performing nursing school, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

This is the second consecutive year that the university has maintained its number one rank, scoring a 100% passing rate for the May 2014 Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE).

The Board of Nursing and PRC said that all of WVSU’s 139 nursing graduates passed the NLE. Only 11,225 of the 29,188 examinees passed the NLE.

Furthermore, Mark Laurence Latumbo Caro, a nursing graduate from WVSU made it to the Top 10. Caro ranked seventh with a score of 84.40%.

Dr. Luis Sorolla Jr., WVSU president, said : “It brings pride and joy to the WVSU community. It reflects the university’s endeavor to attain quality in education as well as the dedication and capability of faculty members of the College of Nursing”.

This marks the third time that WVSU garnered a 100% passing rate; with the first time being in 2007, and the second time in 2013.

Other Visayan schools in the top 10 nursing schools are Cebu Normal University, Silliman University, Velez College, and St. Paul University Dumaguete.
