Duterte slams Canada anew over botched helicopter deal

By , on June 5, 2018

President Rodrigo Duterte, while taking a swipe again at Canada, said he is eyeing South Korea as another supplier of helicopters to the Philippines after he canceled the transaction with Canada last February over the conditions it had set.

According to the president, who was speaking before the Filipino community in South Korea, the Canadian government said that in order for it to release helicopters to the Philippines, it first has to make sure that it will not be used against Filipinos.

Duterte, finding Canada’s condition as “stupid” said: “Canada is listening, my citizens are joining the New People’s Army and they are fighting the government and killing my soldiers and my policemen. It is a dirty war and people are dying. The others, my brothers who are Moro became terrorists.”

He added, “How stupid can you [get]? Why would you say I cannot use it against my own citizens when there are citizens in my country trying to overthrow my government?”
