By , on May 31, 2018

Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano bared the recent challenge encountered by the Philippine military forces in the West Philippine Sea, where they were harassed anew by Chinese forces.

Alejano said that according to his informant from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA): “On May 11, during a reprovisioning mission for our troops in Ayungin, LS507 of the Philippine Navy was challenged and harassed by the Coast Guard and the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China.”

Ayungin Shoal is an area located 105 nautical miles from Palawan and is part of the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone.

Alejano narrated that a chopper of China’s PLAN hovered in a close and dangerous distance to a rubber boat the Philippine Navy launched to resupply BRP Sierra Madre, causing seawater splash to enter the said boat.

The congressman said that China’s action should be viewed as a clear threat to the country’s security forces as this was not the first time that Chinese forces harassed Philippine troops.
