President Rodrigo Duterte vowed anew to pursue his plan of making the world-famous Boracay island a land reform area after its six-month-long environmental rehabilitation.
In a speech during the signing of the Ease of Doing Business Act of 2018 in Malacañang on Monday, the president said: “I do not mean to lord it over but as I have promised, I will declare the entire island a land reform area.”
He stressed that he has no interest in the coastal area and will leave the option of preservation to others as his main goal is just to give back the land area to the natives.
It can be recalled that last month, Duterte has made an announcement of his plan to turn Boracay into a land reform area for Filipino farmers, denouncing the building of new casinos as it would be of no benefit to the Filipinos.
“I’ll give to the farmers. It will be a land reform, that would be better. I’ll tell you now. I will have all the land there reformed, then I’ll give it to the farmers,” Duterte said.
“Why would I give you a casino there? Give it to the people who need it most. That is an announcement. It will be a land reform area. Period,” he added.
