P9.75 billion set to be divided among martial law victims

By , on February 22, 2018

Filipinos whose human rights were violated during the Marcos regime will soon receive compensation as the Human Rights Victims’ Claims Board (HRVCB) is set to finalize the names of the last batch of claimants who will receive the P9.75 billion fund reserved for martial law victims.

“The law provides that the money will be divided among the victims. It should be zero balance, if there are claimants who will not be able to get their claims, the money will be given back to the national treasury,” HRVCB head Lina Sarmiento said.

The names of the last group of claimants will be released before February ends, and all the claims, compensation, and reparation of the victims will be settled by May 12, according to Sarmiento.

Claimants who are seeking further information may check the board’s Facebook page, or contact it through phone or email. They are also advised to visit HRVCB on Facebook for updates.

Sarmiento stressed that claimants who are not satisfied with this government effort and those who “believe that compensation is not enough” may still take legal actions.
