Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go slammed the ‘irresponsible reporting’ of two media outfits which instigated controversies that he meddled with the military’s acquisition of Navy ships.
Go was pertaining to Philippine Daily Inquirer and Rappler.
“What we are discussing right now became an issue when Rappler and Inquirer released a fake news and said that I interfered,” he said at the Senate committee on national defense and security’s probe into the Navy frigate deal.
“All of this started from an irresponsible reporting. I would also like to sincerely request the Senate to continue with the hearing and investigation on fake news, and maybe you can invite Rappler and Inquirer in the next hearing so that they can be asked about the news they wrote,” he added.
Go explained that the contract for the navy frigates was ‘untouched’ by the present administration as it was already completed by the previous.
“This was completed during the Aquino administration. Nothings has been changed, there are no changes, no one interfered and there were no changes made in the contract. It may sound ugly, but we can call the contract photo finished because this was rushed before the end of the Aquino administration,” Go said.
He claimed innocence, saying he was only dragged in the issue to taint the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
