Military says NPA terrorists violated holiday truce

By , on December 27, 2017

The holiday ceasefire that the New People’s Army (NPA) declared has been allegedly violated as they tried to seize a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) Active Auxiliary in Compostela Valley.

There were about 30 fully-armed rebels who chased and attempted to capture Arbilito Catampao, who was assigned at the Tubuan Patrol Base in Tarragona, Davao Oriental, on Christmas day past 9 a.m., Cpt. Jerry Lamosao of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division said in a statement.

He added that an undetermined number of NPA’s also “harassed” the Melale Patrol Base with the CAFGU Active Auxiliary Company, resulting to an exchange of gun fires between the two groups.

There were no casualties on the government troops but quite a number of the terrorists have been killed.

10th ID commander Maj. Gen. Noel Clement said this act of the NPA just proved that they are indeed unlawful.

“Their celebration is usually accompanied by armed attacks against the people that reflect their true color as a criminal organization void of any ideology,” Clement said.
