Communist rebels declare own holiday truce

By , on December 27, 2017

Following the government’s declaration of a holiday truce, the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, did the same when they declared their own ceasefire on days before and after Christmas and New Year.

“During this period, all NPA units and people’s militias shall cease and desist from carrying out offensive military campaigns and operations against the uniformed armed personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and its paramilitaries, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines,” NPA spokesperson Ka Oris said in a statement.

This will take effect at 6 p.m. of December 23 until December 26 and on December 30 until January 2, 2018, all at the same hour.

Despite this declaration, Ka Oris said they will remain vigilant as the CPP and NPA is “too aware of the AFP’s treachery, attacks and deception.”
