House committee OK’s resolution seeking to double police & military salary

A resolution that seeks to double the wages of the policemen and military personnel has been given a go signal by the House Appropriations Committee chaired by Davao City 1st district Rep. Karlo Nograles.

Nograles said the Lower Chamber is set to approve the House Joint Resolution No.18 authorizing the increase in base pay of military and uniformed personnel in the government, and for other purposes, and will be immediately transmitted to the Senate for its approval.

Counted in the increase of salary are those holding the positions of Police Officer 1 (PO1) in the Philippine National Police, private in Department of National Defense as well as their equivalent ranks in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Public Safety College, Philippine Coast Guard, and National Mapping and Resource Information Authority.

In financing the salary increase, the government will be tapping P63.4 billion from its funds.

This is expected to take effect by January 2018 as both Houses of the Congress will work on it before Christmas break.
