Pope on first World Day for the Poor: Fight indifference

By , on December 22, 2017

Pope Francis on Sunday denounced ‘indifference’ in the world, during a mass attended by around 7,000 audience at St. Peter’s Basilica in celebration of the first ‘World Day for the Poor, calling on to those who are rationalizing that “poverty is not their business but society’s fault” to have a change of heart.

The Pope said that each and every one can have a role in giving to others no matter how lowly he thinks of himself.

“We have the talents, we are talented in the eyes of God. Consequently, no one can think that he or she is useless, so poor as to be incapable of giving something to others,” he said, adding that “doing nothing wrong isn’t enough. Because God isn’t an inspector looking for unstamped tickets”.

After the mass, Pope Francis together with an estimated of 1200 poor people, had lunch inside the immense Paul VI Hall.
