SINGAPORE — A Singapore Mass Rapid Transit Cooperation (SMRT Cooperation) train of the East-West line collided with a stationary train at Joo Koon MRT station at about 8 a.m. local time Wednesday, causing injury to at least 23 people, local media reported.
Local media Lianhe Zaobao quoted Singapore Civil Defence Force sources as saying that the 23 injured passengers were sent to hospitals, and majority sustained minor injuries.
It is not the only fault made by Singapore’s MRT system on Wednesday morning that caused train delays and commuter frustration.
According to Channel NewsAsia, a signaling fault caused delays on the Circle Line, which made trains congested and huge crowds seen at an interchange station.
SMRT was recently troubled by a tunnel flooding incident that occurred in October. Six members and other seven managerial staff of SMRT’s Building and Facilities Maintenance group were found responsible for the maintenance of the pump system, which was related to the incident, according to local media.
