There is nothing left for the residents of Barangay Basak Malutlut as they started to rebuild the life they had before the ISIS-inspired Maute terrorists turned their peaceful town into a war zone.
After Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced the end of the 5-month combat war, over five thousand of residents in the Basak Malutlut, where the Marawi siege began, started to return to their town.
Barangay Basak Malutlut served as the staging area of the Maute fighters.
Regional Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong, head of the Marawi Crisis Management Committee complimented the Local government units of Marawi, Joint Task Group Ranao, and other agencies that were involved in the preparation of Marawi rehabilitation and reconstruction master plan.
“Residents of Brgy. Basak Malutlut return to their homes today. Good job LGU Marawi, JTG Ranao & other agencies involved in today’s oplan kambalingan,” Adiong said.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, 700 families from Basak Malutlut were picked up along the road of Balo-I and Saguiaran.
Some residents were emotional and testified that the bloody war left them with nothing.
In spite of this, Adiong is optimistic of the war-torn city’s immediate recovery.
“First time in five months to see private vehicles going in and out of Marawi. The usual traffic flow I used to experience along Marawi-Saguiaran national highway months ago is apparent today. Good sign,” Adiong added.
The city government of Marawi announced the schedule of return of some residents in nine barangays under the Oplan “Kambalingan ago Kaisa-isa ko Kalilintad.”
“The return will not mean a simultaneous return of residents in all barangays; it will happen at staggered bases as more and more barangays are in the process of being readied for its residents to return as time and circumstances permit,” the city government noted.
