MANILA — To increase the country’s power capacity, the government is now aiming to raise installation targets for wind power projects, according to the National Renewable Energy Board (NREB).
NREB chairman Pedro Maniego Jr. said that adjustments might be made once they set a definite date for the commercial operation ongoing plants.
Though there are still no adjustments for the wind installation target, the current installation target for wind are at 200 megawatts (MW).
He also added that “the wind proponents must show that their projects will be like solar, so as to augment the power supply and thus moderate the increase in WESM prices during peak demand periods.”
NREB is the advisory body tasked with the effective implementation of renewable energy projects in the country while WESM, or the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, is the country’s trading floor for electricity.
Meanwhile, The Department of Energy has already issued certification, which was already transmitted to the Energy Regulatory Commission, adjusting total solar installation target from 50 to 500 MW.
