MANILA — Beverage manufacturers in the Philippines were urged to tap the Canadian market as there is growing opportunity in this sector in the said country.

In a statement from the Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (Philexport), it said there is now a growing market in Canada particularly in single-serve coffee.

In a report of Euromonitor, market for single-serve coffee pods is posted at $ 725 million in Canada and is expected to increase to almost 1.8 billion in revenue by 2017.

“Consumers gravitated to the single-serve format as it promised more convenience, improved consistency and fewer excess and wasted brews,” the report said.

Philexport also shared that according to the report, “73 percent of Canadians over the age of 16 consume on average two cups per day, and 63 percent of them brew their own coffee at home”.

Aside from coffee, there is also opportunities in other beverages like tea and cocoa.

“There is even speculation that a soda system would be put in place as well. Moreover, more eco-friendly manufacturing and materials are being put into consideration in the proliferation of single-brew systems,” the report added.
