MANILA — As the country observes Eid’l Adha Friday, the southwest monsoon affecting the western section of Luzon will cause rains over the island, the state weather bureau said.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Babuyan Group of Islands, Ilocos, Batanes and Zambales will experience moderate to occasionally heavy rains, gusty winds and thunderstorms, while Metro Manila, the rest of central Luzon, the Cordillera region, Calabarzon, and Mindoro can expect light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

PAGASA said it is monitoring two weather systems outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Tropical storm Mawar, located 345 km. northwest of Laoag City, outside PAR, would enhance the southwest monsoon affecting western Luzon, said weather forecaster Samuel Duran.

The bureau is also monitoring storm Sanvu, which was last eyed at 2,145 km. east northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds will blow from southwest to south over northern and central Luzon, and from southwest over the rest of the archipelago.

The country’s coastal waters will be moderate to rough, PAGASA said. (PNA)
