MANILA — Larry Fonacier has indeed found a new home at NLEX with former coach Yeng Guiao.

Reactivated only a few weeks ago while recovering from a foot injury, the six-foot-three shooter quickly lit up the Road Warriors, showing that his reunion with the mentor that developed him into a Rookie of the Year winner is on the right track so far.

“So far so good. We’re playing really well. Our preparation is bearing fruit,” Fonacier told PNA.

The major highlight of his revived shooting touch was his fourth quarter surge against San Miguel on Sunday night, where he made eight of his 16 points in the final quarter including two clutch triples and two huge blocks that helped NLEX preserve the win.

The said performance netted Fonacier the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award during the past week.

Fonacier edged Rain Or Shine’s Jericho Cruz and Raymond Almazan, Blackwater’s Bambam Gamalinda and Mike DiGregorio, TNT’s Kelly Williams and RR Pogoy, and Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter and Scottie Thompson for the said citation.

Now just a formality away from making the quarterfinals after two very dismal conference stints, Fonacier aims at grabbing all the marbles.

“That’s our goal (to win the title). I didn’t plan to just give up and expect to lose. Everyday, we do whatever we can to create a winning culture and build confidence,” he further said. “We’re still far away from our goal, so we just gotta keep working and not rest on our laurels.”
