KUALA LUMPUR — Anna Clarice Patrimonio has assured the Philippines of a bronze medal in tennis after reaching the women’s singles semifinal round in the 29th Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday.

The 5-foot-9 Patrimonio fought back from a second-set defeat to prevail over Indonesian Beatrice Gumulya, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, in their quarterfinal encounter at the National Tennis Centre Complex in Jalan Duta.

The victory set up the back-to-back PCA singles and doubles champion against fourth seed Andrea Ka of Cambodia, who scored a 6-0, 6-3 win over Aslina Chua An Ping of Malaysia, in the other quarterfinal match.

Top seed Kuksika Kumkhum of Thailand also marched into the semifinal round after scoring a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Filipino-German Katharina Lehnert. Kumkhum will be up against third seed Stefani Tan of Singapore, who demolished Tran Thu Thanh Truc of Vietnam, 6-0, 6-0.

Patrimonio is a member of the four-time UAAP champion National University.

She won the singles and team bronze medals in the 2013 SEAG in Myanmar. She was a member of the team which won the silver in the 2015 SEA Games. (PNA)
