ILOILO CITY, August 1—  The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) continues with its drive to stop illegal numbers game and to meet the 15-day deadline to wipe-out the illegal gambling here.

The 15-day timeline of the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) started July 24.

With seven days remaining, ICPO director Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso in a media interview on Tuesday assured that they are “pushing” to attain the objective.

Canieso said that station commanders in the seven districts of the city, as frontliners, were directed to strengthen their efforts to arrest all the “bookies” or illegal numbers game in their areas of coverage.

“Our objective is to crash out the ‘bookies’ and we are doing everything. We have already seen results,” he added, although he could not recall the number of apprehensions already made.

PNP Director General Ronald dela Rosa recently said that police officers who failed to stop illegal gambling in their areas will be relieved.

“If the output is low, it is automatic the commander will be relieved but we will really push to reach the objective,” he said. (Cindy B. Ferrer/PNA)
