MANILA — The Eastern Mindanao Command announced that two New People’s Army (NPA) fighters were killed following a clash with troopers of the 58th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Mangilet, Barangay Bal-asan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental Tuesday night.
Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said the encounter took place 11: 24 p.m.
He added that M-16 automatic rifles were recovered from the fallen rebels.
The NPA fatalities were still unidentified.
No casualties were reported among 56th Infantry Battalion troopers.
Caber said that the NPAs were on an extortion and recruitment drive when encountered by government forces.
Pursuit operations were still ongoing as of this posting.
