135 more cops beat Covid-19; active cases down to 598

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that 135 more police officers have recovered from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the total number of recoveries among its ranks to 6,108.

This brings down the number of active cases in the police force to 598, based on the data the PNP Health Service released on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, 52 new infections were reported in the police force, bringing the total number of cases to 6,727.

Of the new cases, the Police Regional Offices in Eastern Visayas (PRO-8) and the Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) each logged 14 cases, followed by the National Capital Region Police Office with six; PRO Cordillera and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with four each, PRO-4A (Calabarzon) with three, PRO-2 (Cagayan Valley) with two while one each in PRO 1 (Ilocos Region), PRO-3 (Central Luzon), PRO-5 (Bicol Region), PRO-6 (Western Visayas), and PRO-11 (Davao Region).

Meanwhile, one police officer died of the disease, raising the death toll to 21.

The latest fatality is a 45-year-old police officer from the PRO-4A, who died on Oct. 16.

Cops who tested positive for Covid-19 observe a 14-day quarantine and undergo another test.

Once cleared, they have to rest for seven to 10 more days before returning to duty.
