MANILA – John Riel Casimero remains the WBO bantamweight champion after knocking out Ghanian opponent Duke Micah on Sunday (Philippine Time) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
A devastating second round knockdown set the tone for Casimero’s dominance before eventually calling it a day in the next round.
Micah actually had a bright moment in Round 1, connecting on a right hook that momentarily rocked Casimero.
But come Round 2, Casimero sent Micah down with a left hook before pummeling him the rest of the round.
Micah barely survived Round 2 and needed a clearance from the ring physician before referee Steve Willis started Round 3.
A couple of upper cuts from Casimero rocked Micah so bad that Willis stepped in to keep him from further damage.
Casimero moved to 30-4 in his career with 21 knockouts.
Micah, on the other hand, suffered his first career loss after winning his first 24 bouts.
