On her visit to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) headquarters, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has done another “simple yet meaningful” act to help.
In photos she shared online, Gray was seen donating her blood, a move she encouraged others to do too.
“Donating your blood to someone in need may just be one of the easiest ways to save a life. Because of people’s hesitancy to visit blood banks during the pandemic, our supplies are worryingly low,” she said.
“The global pandemic may have restricted us from doing our normal routine but it should never hinder our passion to help and be compassionate towards our most vulnerable,” she continued.
Gray said those who want to donate blood could communicate with the PRC Blood Center through 87902384 Local 154 or 09178348276. For those who have questions about coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) testing, they can call 1158 or visit the Google Docs form for Philippine Red Cross 1158 COVID-19 Support Hotline. They can also go to the PRC’s website and click the “Help” button at the bottom right corner of the page.
The 26-year-old beauty queen was named as the newest PRC ambassador earlier this month.
In an interview with ABS-CBN’s TeleRadyo, Gray said she was “very flattered and excited” for her new role, hoping that through this she would be able to “call for blood donations, hoping to call for donations that will allow testing, services of the Philippine Red Cross, to be accessible for every single Filipino.”
On its official Facebook page, the PRC said part of Gray’s duties is to help in disseminating information about COVID-19 testing and its importance, as well as about health protocols against the deadly virus.

Also this week, Gray helped in providing 50 bicycles to Pasig City residents through Gretchen Ho’s “Donate a bike, save a job” project. Due to the lack of public transportation, bicycles have become a necessity for many Filipinos during the pandemic.
