PH records 4K more Covid-19 cases, tally soars to 93K

MANILA – Cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) saw another single-day record of 4,063 new infections reported on Friday.

This surpasses the 3,954 new Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday and brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 93,354.

In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said the new cases were mostly located at the National Capital Region with 2,267 new cases, followed by Cebu with 654, Laguna with 200, Rizal with 123, and Cavite with 117. The remaining 702 cases are from other regions.

Of the total, it said 26,153 were active cases.

For the active cases, it said the majority at 87.8 percent were exhibiting mild symptoms, 10 percent were showing no symptoms or asymptomatic, followed by those with severe symptoms at 1.3 percent, and critical at 0.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of hospital beds and mechanical ventilators in use by those infected with Covid-19 continues to increase.

For beds at intensive care units (ICU), it said 54 percent were currently occupied from the nationwide total of 1,400, while the NCR currently has a utilization rate of 75 percent for its 513 total ICU beds.

For beds in isolation, the country currently has a 53 percent occupation rate of out its total of 11,100 isolation beds, while the NCR is currently using 82 percent of its total of 3,300.

For ward beds, it said 58 percent were currently occupied of the country’s 4,000 total beds, while the NCR is using a high 85 percent of its total of 1,600.

For mechanical ventilators, it said only 29 percent is currently in use out of its 2,000 total ventilators, while the NCR currently has a utilization rate of 48 percent out of its 766 total ventilators.
