Covid-19 cases hit 40K; 1,531 new cases Friday: DOH

MANILA – The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in the country reached 40,336 on Friday, with 1,531 new cases recorded.

In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health said that of the 1,531 new cases, 688 were “fresh” or those who received their test results within the last three days, while 843 were late cases.

Of the fresh cases, it said 255 were in the National Capital Region (NCR), 138 were in Region 7; 271 in other areas, and 24 repatriates.

For the late cases, it said 158 were in the NCR, 163 in Region 7; 514 in other areas, and eight repatriates.

Meanwhile, it said there were 400 new recoveries, bringing the total to 11,073.

While Covid-19’s death toll in the country has slowed down in the past few days, six more deaths were reported, for a total of 1,280.

For the 26,858 active cases or those who are currently still infected with Covid-19, it said that majority were mild cases at 25,403 or 94.6 percent, followed by the asymptomatic at 1,289 cases or 4.8 percent, severe at 139 cases or 0.5 percent, and critical at 27 cases or 0.1 percent.
