A 13-day-old baby had reportedly become the youngest coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related death in the United Kingdom.
Based on media reports, the infant had no known underlying health conditions. No further details about the baby were revealed.
This comes after Sheffield Children’s Hospital confirmed that a child, who was admitted in a critical condition, passed away in the facility last Monday.
“The cause of death is not yet known. Tests have confirmed that the child had Covid-19, but it isn’t yet clear if it was a contributing factor,” it said in a statement.
It was earlier reported that a further 62 COVID-19 positive individuals died in hospitals in England, with the eldest aged 96.
As of writing, more than 300,000 coronavirus cases were recorded in the UK, while more than 42,000 people have died.
