MANILA – The Archdiocese of Manila has scheduled the Chrism Mass at the Manila Cathedral on Friday.

In a circular dated June 16 issued to the clergy but was released on Wednesday, Fr. Reginald Malicdem, chancellor of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, said the annual Church activity will be held on June 19 at 9 a.m.

He added that only members of the Board of Consultors and the Vicars Forane are allowed to attend the event.

“This is to inform you that since we are still under General Community Quarantine only the members of the Board of Consultors and the Vicars Forane will attend the Chrism Mass on Friday, June 19, 2020, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, 9:00 in the morning, at the Manila Cathedral,” Malicdem said in the circular.

During Chrism Mass, priests renewed their vows to priestly service. Also, vessels of oils are being blessed that will be used in parish churches throughout the archdiocese.

“The Holy Oils for the parishes will be given to the vicars forane after the Mass. We request our vicars for age to distribute them to the parishes in their vicariate. Vocals forane who will not be able to attend may send a representative,” the Manila Cathedral official added.

The Chrism Mass, which is normally being held every Maundy Thursday, was postponed to a later date since Church activities have been canceled due to the enhanced community quarantine being implemented in Luzon.

At the same time, the Manila archdiocese urged the priests to join the celebration through live streaming to be provided by TV Maria.

Priests are also asked to inform the faithful about the event and invite them to tune in.
