The exhibition “Strong and Beautiful: Cultural Treasures from the Philippines” will be presenting a collection of traditional Filipino clothing, jewelry made of gold and pearls, and items made of rattan and bamboo; valuable pieces that allow Filipino Canadians to stay connected to their heritage.
Through a series of video clips and still photos, the exhibition which was originally displayed at the Kamloops Museum & Archives from September 20-October 25, 2019 will be shared to the public for free, and will premiere on the Filipino Canadian Art Museum Facebook page, YouTube channel and Instagram on Thursday, June 11, 2019 at 6:00 pm.
This is the first project of the Filipino Canadian Art Museum, a virtual Filipino art gallery and history museum celebrating Filipino heritage in Canada. Founded by multicultural Filipino heritage curator Mona Lavina in Kamloops, BC, the exhibition will also include the work of Filipino Canadian artists Charlie Frenal from Kelowna, BC and Ovvian Castrillo Hill from Fort St. John, BC.
