
MANILA – A magnitude 5.5 quake jolted Leyte early Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic quake struck 8 kilometers of Leyte, Leyte, around 5:19 a.m.
It had a depth of 9 kilometers.
Intensity 5 was felt in Leyte, Kananga, Capoocan and Pastrana, Tacloban City and Ormoc City, all in Leyte; while intensity 4 was felt in Palo, Dulag, Babatngon, Alang-alang, and Palompon, also in Leyte; Mandaue City, Cebu City; Naval, Biliran.
Intensity 3 was recorded in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu and Lawaan, Eastern Samar.
Phivolcs said aftershocks and damages are expected from the magnitude 5.5 quake.
