Almerol named acting AFP deputy chief for intel

MANILA — Brig. Gen. Greg Almerol will assume as acting Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) deputy chief-of-staff for intelligence (J-2).

“Brig. Gen. Greg Almerol, of Philippine Military Academy ‘Makatao’ Class of 1989, takes over as the acting deputy chief of staff for intelligence, J2 vice Maj. Gen. Reuben Basiao, who has taken over the command of (the) 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army from Maj. Gen. (Jose) Faustino,” AFP spokesperson, Marine Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, said on Wednesday.

Before his appointment, Almerol served as deputy commander of the Southern Luzon Command based in Lucena, Quezon and commander of the 903rd Brigade based in Bicol.

“He is also known to be a hard-working and well-rooted intelligence officer having been chief, Central Monitoring Station of the Office Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G-2 and as the commander, 14th Intelligence Service Unit of the Army’s Intelligence Security Group (now Army Intelligence Regiment),” Arevalo said.

Almerol also commanded the 60th Infantry Battalion under the 10th Infantry Division in Eastern Mindanao and was group commander of the 5th Civil Relations Group in Davao City, Arevalo added.
