From local actors and actresses starring in an international film or series to Pinoy movies being recognized and praised in other countries, Filipinos could not get any prouder of its craft, especially now that a film of their own earned a foreign adaptation.

“Kita Kita,” a romantic comedy film starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez, got an Indonesian remake titled “Cinta Itu Buta” or “Love is Blind.”

In her Instagram account, “Kita Kita” director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo shared the trailer of the adaptation where she wrote in the caption, “Ugh.. got teary-eyed on this. Congratulations team #KitaKita and #CintuItuButa!” She also mentioned the accounts of Alessandra and Empoy on her post, telling them to watch the trailer.

“Kita Kita” follows Lea, played by Alessandra, who works in Japan and goes blind one day. She then meets her kababayan, Tonyo, played by Empoy, whom she befriends and eventually fell in love with.

Based on its trailer, the Indonesian version, which stars Shandy Aulia and Dodit Mulyanti, stuck close to the original story but was shot in Busan, South Korea. Apart from being faithful to the Pinoy version, netizens also pointed out the resemblance between Empoy and the lead Indonesian actor.

The movie, directed by Rachmania Arunita, will be shown in theaters in Indonesia this October 10.

Breaching the P300 million mark, “Kita Kita” obtained the distinction of being the highest-grossing local indie movie of all time, besting the P257 million record of “Heneral Luna.”

Erickson Raymundo of Spring Films, one of the production companies behind “Kita Kita,” earlier shared that it was definitely a miracle that the film’s earning suddenly escalated to P300 million in its third week from garnering only two million pesos in its premiere.

He added that their faith goal was only to make P60-P80 million and that they will still be happy if they only made P30 million.
