MANILA — Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to build a case against those responsible for the killing of Dinagat Islands Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Wenefredo R. Olofernes.

In Department Order No. 347, NBI Director Dante Guierran was “directed and granted authority to conduct an investigation and case-build up on the killing” and “if evidence warrants to file the appropriate charges against persons found responsible”.

The NBI was likewise directed to submit reports on the progress of the investigation to the DOJ.

Olofernes was riding a motorcycle with a companion on the way home from jogging when he was shot by another motorcycle-riding gunman on Sunday.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Caraga Regional Hospital, where he was rushed after the attack.
