It was a huge three-set win for the F2 Logistics in the 2019 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference last Tuesday, June 18 as they dominate PLDT Home Fibr at the San Juan Arena, finding a huge contribution from newly added player, Filipino-Hawaiian Kalei Mau.
Mau missing the first game to allow herself time to adjust to her new teammates proved effective as she totalled 17 points off 14 kills, two service aces and a block. Defensively, she contributed 14 digs and eight excellent receptions. In response to her first performance for the Cargo Movers, Mau exclaimed, “I definitely say it was a successful experiment. I’ve had only just a few practices and we didn’t actually play six-on-six yet. So everything was just drills so I really have to improvise with my setter.”
In addition, Mau continues to pay tribute to her former team, United Volleyball Club, which was recently disbanded. “After an unfortunate first few days back here in the Philippines, they picked me up. My spirit was back to normal, back to regular Kalei so I’m really happy. I’m blessed to be able to land this team,” the 24-year-old shared.
F2 head coach Ramil De Jesus also responded to their new recruit, telling the media in a mix of English and Filipino, “Not bad for the new addition on the team,” looking ahead, “There’s probably more adjustments that can be done during practice.”
Aiding Mau throughout the match include Aby Marano, Ara Galang, and Kianna Dy, who each added nine points. Majoy Maron had seven, while setter Michelle Cobb delivered 21 excellent sets. Dawn Macandili performed well as libero also with 27 digs and eight excellent receptions. For PLDT, it was Grethcel Soltones who led the team with 14 points and 10 excellent receptions. Teammate Gen Casugod totalled 11.
The next F2 Logistics match will be on June 22 at the Imus Sports Center in Cavite against the Foton Tornadoes.
