Thirdy Ravena hailed Collegiate Player of the Year

Twenty-two year-old Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagle Thirdy Ravena is named the Collegiate Player of the Year and was awarded during the 2019 Chooks-To-Go Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night las Monday, May 27 at the Amelie Hotel in Manila.

Ravena obtained the award through voting of various sportswriters from different publications after he led his team to another University Athletics of the Philippines (UAAP) championship title for the second year in a row this past season 81. During the most recent finals series against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, the young star averaged 29.5 points, eight rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.

Among the athletes who joined Ravena in the list of awardees include his brother Kiefer, Far Eastern University (FEU) alumni Mac Belo, past San Beda Red Lion point guard Robert Bolick, and former De La Salle University (DLSU) green archers Jeron Teng and Ben Mbala. U

AAP Coach of the Year is presented to Ateneo’s Tab Baldwin, while National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Coach of the Year is Boyet Fernandez of San Beda. The first ever UAAP Volleyball Player of the Year was given to University of Santo Tomas’ Sisi Rondina, while NCAA Volleyball of the Year is awarded to Arellano’s Regina Arocha.

With that, Ravena, who aims to follow in his dad and older brother’s footsteps in playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), completes the 2019 All-Collegiate team that already consists of Bolick, Prince Eze from Perpetual, and Paul Desiderio and Bright Akhuetie both from UP.

The 2019 Chooks-To-Go Collegiate Press Corps Award Night is presented by Amelie Hotel Manila, Rain or Shine, NorthPort, World Balance, Arellano University, AXA Team Eds, and NBL, while it will be aired live on both the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas and Tiebreaker Times Facebook accounts.
