In partnership with Mineski, Globe’s professional esports team Team Liyab will officially be the Philippine representatives for the Mid-Season Invitational League of Legends (LoL) SEA Tour after receiving two Philippine Pro Gaming League (PPGL) awards at Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig last weekend during the LoL and Arena of Valor (AOV) events.

Team Liyab bested out other Philippine teams TNC, Resurgence, and Kidlat, bringing home P400,000 in prizes and the opportunity to win $50,000 in the upcoming international competition, where they will face the best of Singaporean, Malaysian, Thai, and Indonesian teams.

The LoL squad opened their National Minor leg run against TNC Pro Team, who is legendary in the industry, dominating them at 2-0. Afterwards, they faced Steelwolves Gaia from Bacolod, where they also scored a 2-0 victory in the finals. Unfortunately, they lost in the finals, sharing in a Facebook post, “We sincerely apologize for coming up short today. The team appreciates all the support you’ve shown us these past few months, and that has been our fuel and motivation to work hard. To all of our fans that have been with us in every victory, and now in defeat, thank you!”

The weekend prior, the first Philippine representative for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Regional Qualifiers for World Cyber Games 2019 emerged from Team Liyab as Cara Cute bested 30 other individuals in the Hearthstone Philippine National Qualifiers for the 2019 WCG. She will be competing this upcoming weekend, from April 27-28.

Telecom company Globe is very outspoken about its support in developing esports in the Philippines, declaring its belief on its website that “with the right support and training, Filipino esports athletes can compete with any esports team in the world.” It added, “Globe’s esports commitment began through its pervasive LTE network that helped bring mobile broadband gaming to the next level. Then, the company entered into strategic partnerships with Riot, developer of LoL; Garena, publisher of Arena of Valor and Philippine publisher of LoL; and Mineski, which led to the formation of Team Liyab.”
