The set scores ended with 25-21, 25-12, and 25-20 as the team makes history for the third time for themselves – the first during the All-Filipino Conference under George Pascua in 2015 and the second under Coach Shaq Delos Santos also during the Grand Prix last year.
Import Stephanie Niemer led the way this time at 23 points including 17 spikes, three blocks, and three service aces as well as 10 digs and seven excellent receptions. Katherine Bell had 13 points, as well as 12 kills, and 11 digs. Mike Reyes scored a total of seven points.
For Sta. Lucia, it was Casey Schoenlein who fought hard with 12 points, followed by Molly Lohman who contributed eight. However, the Lady Realtors were not able to prevent falling into their 10th loss in 12 games of the season.
Petron head coach Shaq shared that he is “very proud” of his team, saying in Filipino, “Of course, it’s not easy to do. It’s worth it that [the win] is what is in exchange of our hard work. We need to continue that because we already have [this winning streak] so why not improve it even further.”
Niemer, on the other hand, applauds their most recent opponent’s effort, sharing during the post-game interview, “I thought Sta. Lucia came out and they served strong today. They were definitely strong servers and they challenged our passing so we had to adjust and it took us setting the first set to get that. I thought they did a good job today. They’re better than the last time we ran up against them.”
Petron will try to acquire win number 14 next Saturday, March 30 against United Volleyball Club, while Sta. Lucia’s next match is on Tuesday, April 2 against F2 Logistics.
