Former Pasay Representative Lorna Verano-Yap joined the Creator on Christmas Day, December 25.
This was announced by her children, Issandra Yap and Chiro Yap, through a Facebook post using their mother’s account.
“They say that on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, heaven opens its doors and embraces those who pass away… early this morning, at around 6 am, our Mama, joined Our Creator,” they said.
They continued, “We, her children, are so blessed to celebrate her life, even in death. She died peacefully in her sleep and was relieved of all suffering, pain and discomfort.”
It was last October 6 when Issandra and Chiro revealed that the former lawmaker was diagnosed with brain cancer.
According to them, after their mom went through many magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs), computed tomography (CT) scans, blood tests, exams, and a biopsy, doctors found a tumor in the part of her brain “where cognitive thinking and memories are affected.”
“She is currently experiencing disorientation, forgetfulness, confusion, personality and emotional changes,” they earlier said.
During those times, the family did not entertain any visitors as the former lawmaker does not recognize people and it may cause her anxiety and distress.
Two months later, on December 6, the children informed the public about their mom’s condition, saying that cancer has “progressed quickly” and the doctors “have reason to believe that her cancer may have reached Grade III-IV.”
“She has been hospitalized twice in the past month alone, suffering from convulsive & epileptic seizures and pneumonia. Her most recent attack was almost fatal and she was placed in the ICU (intensive care unit), intubated for 5 days. Although she has not been experiencing pain because of her memory loss, her current state is very delicate,” they previously said.
Yap’s daughter and son shared that they have been getting a lot of messages from people who want to see their mother, but still they did not allow them to visit the former Pasay Representative as her condition was “already terminal.”
Nonetheless, the children thanked everyone who prayed and expressed love and support to their mom.
Yap served as Pasay Representative from 1987 to 1992.
The family announced that the former congresswoman’s wake is being held at Heritage Park Chapels 3 and 4 until December 28, Friday. Her interment will be held on Saturday, December 29.
