With the recent cry of Philippine National Police (PNP) Director-General Oscar Albalyalde on ABS-CBN’s long-running primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s” supposed “unfair portrayal of police” Senator Grace Poe defends the local series.

Poe sent a statement to ABS-CBN News, telling him that she believes the show “offers to the Filipino televiewers quality entertainment that espouses the values of family, respect for elders, courage and patriotism.” She added, “The story emanates from the source material, with bits of twits. There are antagonists in the story, which did not only include the police but many others.” Her letter concluded, “How the people view the police is based on the actions of the real police they see on the streets, and not on the acting of fictional cops they watch on screen.”

Poe holds the series close to her heart not only because it was inspired by her father Fernando Poe Jr.’s 1997 film, but also because her mother Susan Roces is a part of the current cast. She refers to the main protagonist of the film “Cardo” (portrayed by actor Coco Martin) as someone “who will always fight for what is right and just.”

After Albalyalde publicly shared his opinion about the show, also receiving support from former chief of the PNP Senator Panfilo Lacson agreeing that what the show promotes “is not allowed in the law,” not only Senator Poe defended the teledrama, but the network itself as well.

On November 14, ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communications head Kane Errol Choa released a statement that firmly believed “the characters, places, and incidents in the program are purely fictitious as stated in the disclaimer aired at the start of the show every night.” According to Choa, “There is no intention to smear the reputation of any organization or portray any person in a negative light.”
