MANILA — Re-electionist Senator Maria Lourdes “Nancy” Binay said the supposed “conflict” between her siblings, Makati City Mayor Mar-len Abigail “Abby” Binay-Campos and Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr., will be tackled once their parents arrive from abroad.
“Pagbalik ng parents namin mag-usap kaming pamilya so at the moment hold muna ‘yang Binay vs. Binay, hindi pa kami nakakapagusap, (We will discuss this once our parents arrive from abroad),” she said in an interview after filing her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for senator at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Manila Friday morning.
Former Vice-President Jejomar Binay and former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay are set to arrive in the country on Saturday from a pilgrimage.
Asked what her advice is to her younger siblings, she said, “Hindi na, matatanda na mga kapatid ko, may kanya-kanyang isip na sila (They are grown-ups and have their own take on matters).”
Binay admitted that she is closer to Junjun, who accompanied her during the filing on Friday.
“Sino ba kasama ko ngayon? (Who accompanied me today?)” she said.
She added that their family is like any other family that siblings sometimes have misunderstandings.
“You know at the end of the day, para sa akin lahat may solution (There is a solution) It may not be now it may be another time but at the end of the day we are still family,” she said.
Junjun said he will be running in the May 2019 polls because of the clamor of the public.
“Sa ground may clamor, senior citizens and vendors. If I would put into weight itong mga clamor gusto ko silang paglingkuran (There is clamor on the ground, senior citizens, vendors I’d like to serve them,” he said.
“What I’m carrying is the Binay brand, the style of governance of my dad. If we go back to the clamor they want the Binay style of governance back,” he added.
Abby and her brother are reportedly going against each other for the city’s highest post in next year’s polls.
