Amid deaths of religious leaders and government officials, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson believed that it is now time for the Philippine National Police (PNP) to have a tougher approach on gun control.
The senator on Monday said the culprits seemed fearless for committing crimes in public places.
“The killing of priests, prosecutors, former and incumbent local officials in broad daylight and in full view of the public may be suggestive of the impunity and brazenness of those responsible for such acts,” Lacson said in a statement.
Lacson said the PNP should act on this before these kinds of crimes get pervasive.
“The PNP should feel challenged, if not taunted and immediately consider stricter firearms control strategies before similar killings could reach ubiquitous level,” Lacson said.
This statement came after the death of Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili, who was shot dead earlier today, July 2.
