Resignation as Senate President not due to challenging Sereno’s ouster, Pimentel says

By , on May 22, 2018

Former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III said on Tuesday that his signing of a resolution challenging the ouster of ex-Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno through a quo warranto was not a factor in his resignation as head of the upper chamber.

In a GMA News interview, Pimentel said he is ready to clarify that issue once the newly elected Senate president Vicente “Tito” Sotto III calls for a Senate discussion regarding the matter.

Pimentel was replaced by former majority leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Monday after 15 senators signed a petition seeking for the reorganization of the Senate.

Pimentel insisted that it really has nothing to do with his decision to leave his post as there are also others who view the quo warranto case against Sereno the same way he does and signed the resolution.
