Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he respects the decision of the House of Representatives to transfer the powers of Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).
This, after the Lower House approved House Bill 7376, titled “Act to Further Strengthen the Office of the Solicitor General” with a vote of 162-10.
“We respect the action of the HoR. But we’ll maintain our position to keep PCGG and the OGCC under the wings of the DOJ (Department of Justice),” Guevarra said.
He added that he still has not engaged in talks with President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the matter.
The president has the power to veto the bill and stop its passage, the Justice Secretary added.
Guevarra also said that there is still no counterpart bill in the Senate and finalizing the decision to abolish PCGG and OGCC will still take time as it is not an immediate issue.
