Marcos, Robredo violate rule not to disclose “sensitive information to public”, ground to be cited in contempt

By , on April 13, 2018

Vice President Leni Robredo and former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. violated a resolution prohibiting them to bare sensitive information on the recount of the 2016 vice presidential election, thus both were asked by The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), to explain why they should not be cited in contempt.

PET on February 13, 2018 ordered both parties to “strictly observe the sub judice rule pending the proceedings of the instant case” but this was violated when the two disclosed information to the public while the manual recounting of votes was ongoing.

“Despite these stern directives of the Tribunal, several news reports have shown that the parties, their counsels and/or representatives, have nonetheless continued to disclose sensitive information regarding the revision process to the public, in clear violation of the aforementioned resolutions,” the PET said in its five-page resolution.

The tribunal gave 10 days for both camps to “show cause and explain.”
