BIÑAN, Laguna — James Younghusband scored the lone goal of the match between Davao and Stallion Laguna as the former snatched a 1-0 win in its first road game of the Philippines Football League season at the Biñan Football Stadium on Sunday night.
Younghusband’s header in the 39th minute turned out to be the difference as Davao held on despite Laguna threatened in the second half.
It was actually a tale of two halves as Davao was aggressive in the first half, getting quick opportunities at the get-go.
The club finally found the net when Younghusband caught the pass of his younger brother Phil and headed the ball past Bitoy Rosalia.
However, it was Laguna’s turn to heat up in the second half, going aggressive offensively and putting up huge chances.
Nick O’Donnell held his own at his post, getting huge saves.
There were some scares down the stretch, especially one in stoppage time when Abou Sy fired a left-footed shot from the right side of the box that hit the post but bounced back to the playing field to the relief of O’Donnell.
Davao stays unbeaten after two matches with four points, while Laguna incurred its second loss of the season against a lone win for three points.
