MANILA — Thomas Dooley believes that he did enough for him to get a new contract as the head coach of the Philippine Azkals football team.
“We had 11 records in those four years. We qualified for the Asian Cup. We had the highest ranking ever,” Dooley told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Monday following a pocket press conference at the UCC Cafe Terrace in Taguig City.
He even said that if the PFF changes its direction, it will catch him off guard.
“It would be a huge surprise that they wouldn’t give me an offer for another two years or so,” Dooley said.
The former US national team player then admitted that the PFF has yet to reach out to him.
“I haven’t talked to anybody yet,” Dooley said.
The Azkals mentor, however, remains optimistic that he will stay with the Philippine national team.
“Hopefully, they will get back to me and we can talk about it,” Dooley added.
For the meantime, Dooley will keynote speaking chores as he is set to speak to teen footballers and youth team coaches in “Anything is Possible” — an event organized by the Teen Azkals Foundation to be held on Friday at the AIM Conference Center in Makati City.
