Tagle warns against ‘arrogant leaders’

By , on March 26, 2018

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle warned the public against “leaders filled with arrogance” as many have already been followers of this bad example.

Tagle said this as he delivered his Homily in celebration of Palm Sunday, March 26 at the Manila Cathedral.

“Our world today is dominated with kings filled with arrogance and short of humility. Today, there are many who follow kings who use violence, arms, and threat – with no understanding and unity with the weak,” the Archbishop said.

Taking Jesus Christ as an example, Tagle said leaders should emulate him for in the “eyes of the world He was a King who never used violence.”

“Our King, does not rely on violence. He does not believe in weapons. Does not believe in sword. Does not believe in bullet and guns,” he said.

Tagle stressed that a person can only save the world if he has faith in God as this is a characteristic of a “true authority.”

“The serene dignity and silence of the person who trusts in God, and who is in full solidarity with sinful humanity – that is true authority. That is our true King. That is the King that will save the world,” Tagle said.
