Boracay continues operation on peak season

By , on March 23, 2018

Boracay Island will not be shut down during the Holy Week, enabling tourists to spend their vacation in the world-famous island.

Speaking before reporters in the Palace, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. on Thursday encouraged tourists who are planning to spend their time outside the metro this summer to consider visiting Boracay.

“Proceed to Boracay, especially since it’s Holy Week,” Roque said.

“I don’t think any closure will happen during the peak season of Boracay,” he added.

This, despite the call of various departments such as those from Environment, Local Government and Tourism to close Boracay for one year to give way to its rehabilitation and to warn establishment owners who violated laws in the island to straighten their actions.

However, there is no final decision on what awaits Boracay as Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte has made “no specific instruction yet.” but vowed to be the first to announce any developments.

“No specific instruction has been made by the President and if he has made a decision then, I would most certainly be the first to announce it…right now, it’s status quo,” he said.
